Unfettered Ink

Ah the #plesiosaur! Here’s a #closeup of his/her head( I didn’t know what sex it should be). Not many details or #wounds along the face as much as the mosasaur but enough. I used to love these guys when I was younger. I still do. It’s a freakin’ #dinosaur! Thanks for looking!

Here’s a #closeup of the #mosasaur. I thought of a what a #shark’s snout would look like, and thought a mosasaur’s might be similar in that they would both be quite #scarred from previous #wounds. The only thing that saved a mosasaur was its size. Even the young ones were #prey to their older, larger #kin. I thought showing some of these #details might be nice for the curious. Because you know, it’s all in the details! Enjoy the #dinosaur and his hungry #maw.

Another #dinosaur #artwork. This time #featuring a #mosasaur and a #plesiosaur along with a couple of #fish. It’s the food chain! #prehistoric #waters were #violent places, some would argue even more so than the land. These #mighty #critters occupied every nook and cranny. Can you #imagine the size of these things? The #epic #battles? Think about that. This was a #pen and #ink that started out as any other #drawing of mine, a quick #pencil #sketch followed by a pen. In this case I used a #sharpie.

Another #Primal #Rage #character, #Chaos. He was supposed to be a #sorcerer seeking #power. His #spell backfired and he got #cursed or something. He was to live in his own #filth and he was quite a #disgusting. His special #attacks were geared toward bodily fluids. I wanted to take him a little further in that he should also look a little #emaciated, thus his ribs and #rotting #flesh. Yes he #puked on himself. His #follower stands on the #giant’s knee.

#Primal #Rage! This is #Blizzard from that #game. For those that don’t know, primal rage was a #fighting game from the #90’s that featured giant dinosaurs and a couple apes that were bent on #world #domination. This is one of them. The game was #uber #gory and caught a lot of flack for it. It’s a game I would honestly love to see brought back. The original characters were shot in #claymation. A form of #animation using #stopmotion style #photography. I’m sure now it would be all #CG and I’m okay with that. Just bring it back!

New Insights About Evolving Triceratops

In the latest paper to be published about findings from the Hell Creek Formation, Montana State University doctoral candidate John Scannella and three co-authors reveal new insights into the evolution of Triceratops, based on more than 50 specimens that have been collected in recent years.

Over one to two million years at the end of the Cretaceous Period, Triceratops went from having a small nasal horn and long beak to having a long nasal horn and shorter beak. The dinosaur with a small nasal horn and long beak is a Triceratops horridus. It was only found lower in the Hell Creek Formation. The dinosaur with a long nasal horn and shorter beak is a Triceratops prorsus. It was only found near the top of the Hell Creek Formation.  Skulls found in the middle of the Hell Creek Formation showed characteristics of both Triceratops horridus and Triceratops prorsus.

“This study provides a detailed look at shifts in the morphology of a single dinosaur genus over time,” Scannella said.

blue was an interesting choice.

Boom! My #triceratops is complete! Because #dinosaurs kick all the #ass. Did a rough and light #pencil #sketch & #inked in the #big fella. I was gonna leave it #blackandwhite but decided some #color would be a greater #exercise for me. Could use some more color it think, but for now he’s done. #illustration #art #artwork #drawing #horns #charge #bull
